The Barbados Cruising Club, like the Barbados Yacht Club has been active for a long time. Opened in this sunny Caribbean island sometime in 1957, it is an inclusive Sailing Club with beach and marine facilities for its members and patrons alike.
The views from the Clubhouse, whether rain or sun, are just the thing after a day of Deep Sea Fishing or Dingy racing!
Apart from all the cruising and sailing games and activities, the Club operates a Bar where almost any type of beverage is available as well as sandwiches, wraps, and dinners. It also offers other fun times ranging from Quiz Nights to Jazz Nights and family recreation.
Barbados’ first (and fourth) Prime Minister, The Rt. Honourable Errol Walton (Dipper) Barrow, PC., QC., was a founding member of this Club, and it has fondly named the Bar “Dipper’s Bar” in his memory.
Most of the Club’s evening entertainment takes place on the Clubhouse’s deck, which is overlooked by Radisson Hotel.
The Club is also home to LRN2Sail, a year-round sail school where young and old learn how to sail. The wonderful adventure, the Mount Gay Rum’s Round Barbados Race in which all classes of boat sail around our coast, is organized and directed from here.
Located on the Carlisle Bay end of Graves’ End (Pebbles) Beach, the Club is a seaside neighbour of the Barbados Yacht Club. You can even access that beach by swimming or walking under the Radisson’s pier!
The Barbados Cruising Club is more than a place of Heritage and History. It is a social landmark of the egalitarian movement in shipping and sailing in Barbados. It is well worth a visit next time you holiday in Barbados.
